The NOUS project, coordinated by the AIR Institute, is set to host a comprehensive international online conference on March 2, 2026, centering on the evolution of IaaS and PaaS solutions within the European cloud landscape. As a flagship initiative under the Horizon Europe program, NOUS is dedicated to architecting a next-generation infrastructure that fluidly integrates edge computing, High-Performance Computing (HPC), and quantum resources. This project is a vital pillar for Europe’s digital sovereignty, offering an open-source framework that ensures data privacy and interoperability with major initiatives such as Gaia-X, FIWARE, and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
The conference serves as a multidisciplinary platform where researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders can examine the technical and regulatory shifts required to build a secure, federated cloud ecosystem. Participants will dive into a broad spectrum of cutting-edge topics, including:
- Decentralized Governance: Exploring blockchain and distributed ledger technologies for transparent data management.
- Advanced Intelligence: Discussing federated machine learning and AI optimization across the computing continuum.
- Sustainability: Developing energy-efficient models that scale from localized IoT devices to massive supercomputing environments.
- Security: Implementing zero-trust infrastructures to protect the data economy.
Chaired by Ricardo Alonso (AIR Institute), alongside program chairs Javier Prieto and Gaetano La Delfa, the event is supported by an international committee of experts from top-tier universities and research centers. In keeping with the project’s commitment to open science, the conference is entirely free of charge and hosted online to ensure global accessibility. This event offers a unique opportunity for the innovation community to collaborate on the standards and technologies that will define a sovereign and resilient digital future for Europe.
