On December 17, 2025, the NOUS consortium held its third workshop, “NOUS & Beyond: Building Bridges Across Data Spaces” to share progress and foster collaboration across European data ecosystems. The event presented preliminary results, insights from the first NOUS White Paper, and synergies with sister projects.
NOUS introduced its integrated architecture for a European Cloud–Edge–HPC–Data Spaces framework, designed for interoperability and trust. This architecture combines secure identity management, data sovereignty, and orchestration of cloud, edge, and high-performance computing resources, including quantum technologies. The White Paper outlines HPC–Cloud convergence and hybrid quantum-classical models to enable scalable, energy-efficient computing.
Four use cases demonstrated real-world impact: improving road safety through GDPR-compliant edge and fog camera systems; enhancing renewable energy forecasting with machine learning and federated learning; strengthening crisis management platforms with blockchain and zero-trust security; and accelerating scientific discovery using AI-driven workflows that reduce data needs and optimize large design spaces.
Sister projects added valuable perspectives. CEDAR project focuses on transparent governance and robust AI for public procurement. CyclOps project automates data lifecycle management and semantic integration for tourism, climate resilience, and manufacturing. DS2 project enables secure inter-dataspace exchanges for urban planning and agriculture. PLIADES project develops AI-enabled solutions to optimize data lifecycles and interoperability across mobility, energy, healthcare, and industry.
Looking ahead, NOUS and its partners will pursue joint pilots, shared datasets, and coordinated policy recommendations to strengthen Europe’s data economy and advance FAIR principles.
